A crush of dark clouds poured over Singapore yesterday just ahead of a torrential downpour that resulted in multiple flash floods across the country.
The massive wave of clouds covering the central region were seen over areas like Tiong Bahru, Potong Pasir, and River Valley from as early as 2:30pm, the same time the National Environment Agency issued a heavy rain warning.
“Happening in Singapore now… reminds me of that movie ‘2012’,” Devesh Singh captioned images online of the dramatic clouds shot the infinity pool at Marina Bay Sands.

Serangoon and Paya Lebar in Singapore’s Northeast and East respectively were among places hit by flooding. Nearby Tai Seng recorded the heaviest rainfall of around 131.4 millimeters that poured nonstop for close to four hours. That was more than half of the monthly average for November and topped the maximum daily rainfall records for the past 39 years, the water agency said.
Singapore is no stranger to flash floods with the previous one occurring in June. The eerie dark clouds, however, were not a normal occurrence.
Some people likened the apocalyptic sky to scenes from doomsday movies like Independence Day, The Mist, and 2012.
