Civil servants celebrate SG50 with one-off $500 bonus

In recognition of their contribution towards nation building, civil servants will each receive a one-off $500 bonus to mark the nation’s 50th birthday this year, the Public Service Division (PSD) announced in its press release on Wednesday. The special payout is in addition to their mid-year bonus, which will amount to half a month’s pay this year.

The PSD also added that nearly 2,500 lower-wage civil servants will also receive a S$30 increment in their monthly salary, over and above their annual raise, which demonstrates the government’s “continued commitment to help raise the salaries of low-wage civil servants”. This decision regarding the mid-year bonus was due to the slight economic progress thus far.

The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) expressed its elation in a media statement that the PSD had accepted its suggestion for a special SG50 bonus payout. The NTUC had encouraged companies in May to thank employees for their dedication, whether in cash or kind, to celebrate Singapore’s 50 years of independence. Employees will truly treasure it since it’s probably only once every 50 years that they will be given extra special recognition for their hard work and dedication.

Meanwhile, non-civil servants get jack shit.
