Britain’s Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, will stop by Singapore on their tour of Southeast Asia at the end of October. The royal couple will be welcomed by newly-minted President Halimah Yacob at a ceremony in the Istana, followed by a meeting with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong before they attend an official dinner, according to a press release by the prince’s office on Wednesday.

This marks the duchess’ first official visit to the Little Red Dot, while the prince’s last official visit was in March 1979, reported Channel NewsAsia.

Their three-day visit here, which starts on Oct 31, includes a meeting with leaders from Singapore’s 10 national religions, an event with representatives from British companies in Singapore and one to celebrate UK-Singapore cultural collaborations.

The press release also stated that Prince Charles will be at a wreath-laying ceremony to recognize the sacrifices made by British, Singaporean and Commonwealth personnel during the two World Wars and other conflicts.

As for the duchess, she will be at a school to meet the young talents aiming to enter the Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition, which is the world’s oldest schools’ international writing competition.

After Singapore, the couple will head to Kuala Lumpur to celebrate 60 years of diplomatic ties between the UK and Malaysia at a gala dinner. Following that, they will make stopovers at Sarawak, Perak, and Georgetown, Penang.

The 11-day Southeast Asian tour is set to end off in India, where they will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

But despite earlier media reports that suggested an official visit to Myanmar, it was omitted from the final programme, even though it had been considered for the trip. Royal aides declined to elaborate on the decision.
