Blazing inferno at CK Building finally extinguished around 6am, 16 hours after it broke out

Kudos to all the courageous Singapore Civil Defence Force officers, who worked tirelessly through the night to put out the largest industrial estate fire of the year. The massive inferno, which broke out around 1.30pm yesterday at CK Building on Tampines Street 92, required the deployment of 110 firefighters and 23 vehicles to get it under control.

According to The New Paper, many employees in the six-storey industrial warehouse and its neighbouring ones didn’t expect the blaze to turn into a raging fire so quickly. Two other buildings along the same road were also evacuated as a precaution. Thankfully, about five hours after the flames engulfed the building, they were brought under control by the SCDF.

But the firefighters still had their work cut out for them.

Through the wee hours of the morning, SCDF personnel were still putting out pockets of fire using aerial monitors. It was only until about 6am this morning that the SCDF reported the fire was finally extinguished and they had moved on to damping down operations.

No injuries were reported, except for a firefighter who was taken to the hospital for heat exhaustion. He has since been discharged and is now on medical leave.

Throughout this entire ordeal, it’s been heart-warming to witness the amount of public support and gratitude expressed towards the brave SCDF firefighters. Netizens have been pouring out comments saluting the officers and commending them for their heroic actions. Like in this much talked-about Facebook post.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
