Police have confirmed the arrest of a 23-year-old woman who allegedly conned more than a dozen victims with non-existent tickets to JJ Lin’s concert or the National Day Parade.
Between July and August this year, the police received 16 reports from cheated victims who were tricked into transferring money to a seller on online marketplace Carousell in exchange for the tickets. The suspect became uncontactable after the money was transferred. Officers from the Bedok Police Division managed to establish her identity and the woman was arrested on Wednesday. She will be charged today with cheating.
It’s unclear if the suspect is the same individual behind a scam that involved sending blank pieces of paper to folks who paid hundreds of dollars for tickets to JJ Lin’s currently ongoing shows at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. Earlier this month, Facebook user Christine Xtine posted about her experience when she very nearly lost $700 to the scammer. After lodging a police report, Christine was told that an investigation has been launched into the case as they’ve received several reports from other people about the very same scammer.
Just yesterday, a woman warned others that someone has been going around using her name to scam JJ Lin concert ticket buyers on Carousell.
