With everlasting world peace on the line next week, the Archbishop of Singapore William Goh called for prayers to bless the upcoming meeting here between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Yesterday, Goh encouraged all parishes and organizations in the Archdiocese to pray for the success of the summit, meant to pave the way for denuclearization in North Korea. We’ll never know the outcome of the talks for now, but what’s for sure is that it’ll take more than a single sit-down session for the Hermit Kingdom to willingly give up their nukes. We suppose a little divine intervention wouldn’t hurt.

“Lord, we pray You will enlighten the political leaders to work for peace, justice and social order in the world,” the Archbishop wrote in a Facebook post.

“May this be the start of a continuous effort to building strong relationships, freed from the burden of fear and the weight of suspicion. May nations learn to trust each other and work towards world peace for all human kind.”

If you’re finding the Archbishop’s name familiar, it’s because he was also the man who expressed grave concerns about the Madonna concert being held here, as well as the “homosexual content” in the live-action Beauty and the Beast flick.

Goh is not the only one calling for celestial support in the summit. Non-profit organization Open Doors USA is calling on all American Christians to commit to a day of prayer and fasting on Monday, a day before the summit at Capella Hotel. There’s even an “online prayer summit” for Christians around the world to pray together — but the intention is less about ensuring peace in the Korean peninsula and more about allowing Christianity to flourish in North Korea.

“During the online Prayer Summit, an Open Doors expert will share why North Korea is one of the most difficult regions in the world to be a Christian, ranking #1 on Open Doors’ World Watch List for 17 straight years,” the NGO wrote on their website.

“They’ll share behind-the-scenes details relaying how North Koreans are forced to worship their leaders, how Christians are imprisoned, and how Bibles are illegal in the East Asian country.” Cool.

Perhaps prayers are needed to calm things down. After all, Trump’s own adviser Rudy Giuliani might have severely offended the North Koreans recently, and zany ex-NBA star Dennis Rodman might play a role in the bilateral nuclear talks.
