11-year-old Singaporean music prodigy nabs first prize at esteemed international violin competition

At this year’s Menuhin Competition in Geneva, Switzerland, one talented 11-year-old violinist made Singapore proud by nabbing first prize in the Junior Division on Apr.20. It was an honor Chloe Chua shared with 10-year-old Australian Christian Li, making it the first time this has happened in the history of the competition founded by famed violinist Yehudi Menuhin in 1983.

After whittling down 22 competitors aged between 10 to 15, six finalists took the stage, and ultimately Chua and Li each walked away with CHF10,000 (S$13,517) and a one-year loan of a fine old Italian violin courtesy of Florian Leonhard Fine Violins.
