A quick digest of the coolest weekend happenings in Singapore.

Beers on the Lawn

Escape from CNY visitations and chill on the lawn with an ice cold beer in hand at PS Cafe’s Harding Road outlet. Craft beers and ciders go for $10 a pop, and you’ll be relaxing to laidback tunes.

CNY Block Party

Hosted by Pizza Fabbrica and Flying Monkey, this low-key street party features music performances and drinks promos for those who want to unwind away from the CNY crowds.

6.30pm-1am at Bussorah St. Free.

CNY Lockdown

Did you hear that? It’s the sound of people chanting ‘free flow alcohol!’. The second edition of Lockdown is as its name suggests — basically, you can’t leave, or the free flow liquor stops (and everyone boos you). Other rules include dressing to the theme (which is a vaguely-worded ‘Oriental’), arriving by 10pm sharp, no toilet or smoke breaks, and no puking. Good luck.

10pm-late at Skyline Club & Lounge. $35; free entry for those dressed in theme.

Soulfeed: Sven Väth with Ferng

Party the long weekend away (you’ll have two days to recover from your hangover) with beats by Sven Väth at the shiny new Zouk.

9pm-late at Zouk.

Sunday, Jan 29

Chinese New Year Beer Party

Toast to a good year ahead with free-flow beers from 6.30pm to 8.30pm and special brews from 8.30pm till the end of the night.

6.30pm-midnight at Good Luck Beerhouse. Pre-sale $38, at the door $48.

Gone Down Under: Australia Day Celebration

Celebrate Australia Day at the beach with barbecued meats, burgers and chocolate lamingtons. Aussie DJs Dave Code, Dave Does and Adam Sky will provide the top 40s beats.

11am-10pm at Tanjong Beach Club.

Istana Nature Guided Walk

Get a tour around the Istana’s grounds during its Chinese New Year open house and catch glimpses of the flora and fauna in the area.

10am-4pm, conducted hourly at Istana. $2-$10.

Migrant Tales — Reading
