Pageant shows are known for being over the top but Sean Nicholas Sutiono from humble Singapore likes to keep it real. Too real, perhaps.
The Singapore representative for the Mister International competition, which is happening this weekend in Manila, the Philippines, has created quite a stir with his choice of national costume that he put on for the official portraits.
While Mister Korea donned a hanbok and the Thailand rep looked princely in his get-up, our Singapore man served some looks for the nation in shorts, boots, and a (creasy) Singapore flag. No shirt included.
Cheeky stunt or tasteless choice, it got the comment section going.
Coconuts has since reached out to Mister International Singapore for a comment. However, they commented on Instagram in reply to the other reactions saying that Sean’s costume “is in the works.”
On their own Instagram account, they also mentioned that it was a tribute in honor of Alan Sim, the founder of Mister International who passed away recently on Oct. 16, just weeks before the pageant. Coconuts have not heard back yet as to how the costume is a tribute.
In a separate post, it stated that Sim left behind “the legacy of an organization that empowers young distinctly handsome men the confidence and experience they need to create positive societal impact on a global scale.” This year marks the 14th edition of Mister International.
We wish Sean all the best on this journey and may he stomp on all the other contestants this weekend.
Anyway, we don’t know about you but Sean’s costume isn’t so bad compared to Mister USA who went as… Captain America.
