After Nathan Hartono paved the way for Singaporeans on popular Chinese singing contest Sing! China last year, four talented local ladies impressed the judges and got the opportunity to represent Singapore in this year’s competition.
Weeks of battling it out followed, and now Joanna Dong, 35, and Olinda Cho, 37, are set to go head-to-head on Friday night’s episode to fight for the chance to represent their mentor, Taiwanese Mandopop star Jay Chou, at the grand final in Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Stadium on Oct 8.
Both singers will perform a duet with guest singer Harlem Yu, after which Dong will belt out True Love Song by Yu and Cho will croon Silence by Jay Chou.
TODAY reported that former Sing! China mentor Yu described Dong and Cho as such: “One is robust, while the other is soft. One is like a raging storm, the other like a soft gust of wind.”

A panel of 51 judges and the celebrity mentors will pick the winner, who will then go on to compete in a solo round against the winner of the face off between the two remaining members of Team Jay Chou — Janice Tan from Malaysia and Darren from Xinjiang, China.
But if the rumors reported by Chinese media are to be believed, Dong is the one who will emerge victorious, noted Channel NewsAsia.
When asked about the leaked news, Dong told The Straits Times: “I’d like to thank everyone for their support, but they will have to stay tuned to Sing! China to find out if the rumors are true.”
The episode will air on Jia Le Channel (Singtel TV Channel 502) at 9pm on Friday.
