Romance is in the air: This new local app proposes date ideas and gift suggestions

Singapore is tiny, there’s nothing much to do here, it’s too sterile a place to find love or let it blossom… we get it. Romancing someone isn’t the easiest thing when you’re knee deep in work 24/7 and have other commitments piling on top. We’ve been in this boat too, racking our brains in order to plan interesting dates that haven’t been done to death.

Enter Date Out, a new local app that essentially works like a marketplace platform for out-of-the-box date experiences and customizable gift services for couples. Basically, you can get on the app (or site) and browse through categories like workshops, sports and adventure, personalized gifts, intimate gifts, and flowers, then cultivate ideas from there.

Some notable vendors featured in the app include: AJ Hackett, KF1 Kart, To Be Calm, Uppercut Boxing, and Longue Vue Design, with activities (starting from $18) such as go-kart racing, candle-making, fishing, wine appreciation, leather crafting, pottery and, er, even an introduction to pro wrestling. The current selection isn’t too extensive just yet, but give ’em time and you’ll find new stuff added every now and then.

So if the day ever comes when you’ve exhausted our Coconuts Singapore roundups of creative date nights, most romantic restaurants, and coolest things to do after midnight (that don’t involve booze or beats), then hey, there’s an app for that. (Yes, we’re talking about Date Out.)

It looks like their list of recommendations will be ever-growing, too. And people say Singapore is boring. Tsk.

Anyway, despite its name, Date Out isn’t just for lovers. If you’re single and ready to mingle (with your best buds), the app is a handy reference for activity suggestions on a weekend when you’re sick of cafe-hopping, shopping at yet another soulless mall, or any of those supposedly typical things us Singaporeans do.

Goodbye, dinner-and-movie schtick. Goodbye.

Date Out is available for download on iTunes and Google Play
