How’s your Singapore spirit doing? Amping up towards its annual peak on August 9? ‘Cause if you’re the type that goes gaga over quirky illustrations with a local twist, you may wanna check out Antpowered. The homegrown designer phone case brand is in-the-know about hot topics of the week, plus it’s in tune with our culture and heritage, and it’s got quite a way with words.

Offering more than 1,000 styles catering to 100 phone models, the folks behind the goods aim to launch new designs every other week, with prices that start from $15. Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi, and Apple models are among the list of compatible phones, and a quick browse through its site shows an eclectic array of designs that range from adorable to edgy, in categories such as “Yolo”, “Freedom”, and “Colors of Life.’

But the Uniquely Singapore series is what caught our attention — it takes you from LOLs to nostalgic moments with just one quick scroll through the pun-filled selection. If you often catch yourself dreaming of those days in school when no one knew what a smartphone was, the “See No Touch” or “Scissors Paper Stone” designs may bring you back in time. Or if you always dreaded Mandarin exams, the “Xiao Ming” option may trigger nightmares about Chinese composition tests.

Riding on our love to eat, the brand also comes up with witty food puns, including the likes of “Ramen, My Type of Men”, “Sending Laksa (Lots of) Love”, “Egg to My Prata, Without You I Kosong”, and “Every Teh I’m Shuffling.”

Military dudes can also join the action with army camouflage cases that bear statements like “Whole Lot Knock it Down” and “You Think I Thought Who Confirm?” Of course, the Merlion, those ubiquitous gem biscuits, and “chope” tissue packets make an appearance too, alongside typical Singlish phrases such as bo lui (no money), sibei jialat (very unfortunate), alamak (an expression of shock), and steady lah (a positive sort of agreement).

Oh, and if you can’t forget February’s Go-Jek “kidnapper/ERP” drama and all the memes that the “hostage” situation spawned, cash in on the joke with the “Is It Because I’m (Fill in the Blank)” case.
