May 4th is a special day for those in the know — and to mark the 40th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, there will be a May the 4th Be With You Festival on Star Wars day this year.

Read on if you’d like to be transported to a galaxy far, far away.

You know the Supertree Grove at Gardens by the Bay? Well, it’ll be part of the ‘SaberTrees’ light-up as it undergoes a transformation to glow in resemblance of lightsabers. Then at 7.45pm and 8.45pm each night, the Star Wars edition of Garden Rhapsody will sweep you up in 15 minutes of theatrical music and dazzling lights. But first, you’ll have to make it pass the two-legged armored walker that is the All-Terrain Scout Transport standing guard at the Grove.

People who love to dance, hit up the Star Wars themed Silent Disco on May 5 and 6 for a groovy evening of melodies that will take you back to your favourite scenes from the films. And keep an eye out for appearances by Chewbacca and Kylo Ren as they swing by Earth for a couple of selfies.

But the main highlight of the fest is the inaugural Star Wars Run, which offers participants a choice between the Light and Dark side, and two distances of 4.5km or 10km. Don’t take the race too seriously though, because there’ll be light projections, music and photo ops with themed surprises along the way. Everything ends off with a bang at the race village, where you’ll get to check out games, food booths and an outdoor screening of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

May the 4th Be With You Festival is on May 4-6, 3pm-11pm at Supertree Grove, Gardens by the Bay. Free; registration required for Star Wars Run.
