It’s been more than a month since Jewel Changi Airport opened, but the buzz around it keeps going with new restaurant openings and the upcoming debut of its gigantic playground. Officially launching on June 10, the Canopy Park on the top floor of Jewel is a sprawling space of 14,000 sqm housing seven attractions and gardens, most of which stay open from 9am to 3am.
But play time comes at a price — a small one. The entry fee for Singapore residents is $4.50, and you’ll have to top up anywhere from $7.20 to $19.80 to access certain areas.
Included in the admission ticket are the Discovery Slides, a four-slides-in-one sculpture with a 6.5m-high platform that overlooks the Shiseido Forest Valley; Foggy Bowls, a series of four concave “bowls” in the ground with sporadic sprays of mist; Petal Garden, a spread of seasonal floral blooms; and Topiary Walk, a photogenic path dotted with topiary animals like orangutans, elephants, and peacocks.
As for the ticketed attractions, the Hedge Maze has been touted as the largest indoor one in Singapore, with its manicured landscapes and decorative gates. Another overachiever, the garden Mirror Maze is a world first, while the 50m-long Canopy Bridge lets you walk 23m above the HSBC Rain Vortex, otherwise known as the globe’s tallest indoor waterfall.
For a bit of a thrill, the Manulife Sky Nets offers a walking trail suspended across a 25m-tall void, as well as a 250m-long bouncy net that gives you a glimpse of all the action happening eight meters below you.
Also operating daily from 9am to 3am are the F&B joints, which include the likes of Arteastiq Bistro, Aloha Poké, Rumours Bar and Grill, Tiger Street Lab, and Tanuki Raw.
Besides the sky-high crowd-pleasers, Jewel is also unveiling Changi Experience Studio, a concept by Changi Airport Group to promote tell stories of the award-winning airport in a multimedia way. Situated on the fourth floor, the digital attraction features 10 zones that feature interactive games, projection storytelling, exhibitions, and shows.
Highlights include the Garden of Harmony, where visitors can “perform” a symphony with other players solely through hand movements; Amazing Runway, which mimics the race between a Porsche 911 GT3 Carrera Cup car and a Boeing 747 airplane; Sky Deck, a room that showcases the air hub’s network of flight paths; and Backstage, where you get to go behind the scenes to find out what it takes to keep the airport running.
Oh, and there’s also a corner for those having a spectacularly good day to challenge one another in the battle of the smiles. Literally, the challenge judges you based on how big and bright you can grin.
The studio will also launch on June 10 and open daily from 10am to 10pm, with entry fees at $19 for adult Singapore residents or $13 for children and seniors.
