Hong Kong singer Miriam Yeung has called off her concert in Singapore amid the ongoing viral outbreak that has spread from China and led to new travel restrictions on Chinese travelers.
Wuhan, where the virus is concentrated, was one stop on the 45-year-old singer’s world tour that began last year in Guangzhou, China, according to APACTix, which cited “travel conditions” for canceling the Feb. 8 show at the Indoor Stadium.
“All concert production equipment and machinery are to be freight in from China and set up by the Chinese team,” organizer Live Nation said in a Tuesday statement. “Due to the current freight and travel conditions in China, it is not possible to complete the staging according to production requirements.
Those conditions include increased scrutiny of travelers, especially those who have been in Wuhan, where most of the nearly 4,500 infections have been recorded. At least 106 people had died of the virus, as of today.
Live Nation said it deeply regretted the decision and promised full refunds to fans.
“Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding,” it added.
The tour also made stops in Shenzhen and Beijing as well as Australia’s Melbourne and Sydney and Canada’s Toronto.
The pop singer, who’s released more than 40 albums in two decades, is best known for her songs Small City and Teenage Girl Prayer.
The announcement comes two days after Hong Kong singer Andy Lau canceled 12 concerts abroad to “protect the health and safety of the audience,” according to an announcement on his website.
Singapore on Monday confirmed its fifth case of the coronavirus and further expanded precautionary measures such as converting university dorms into quarantine housing and requiring teachers and students returning from China to stay home for two weeks.
