Dad jokes, television show parodies, and cat videos conquered Singapore’s TikTok content this year, the platform revealed Tuesday.
They were considered as the “most impactful” in Singapore, where the short-form video platform has been booming amid the pandemic with more than a million local users so far, according to the Year On TikTok 2021 report containing findings based on data gathered from January to October.
Father-and-son patriotic dance off
One of the more popular Singapore videos this year was of Joel Choo (aka Joelchoozw) and his actor-father Zhu Houren dancing to a remix of this year’s National Day theme song The Road Ahead. It garnered over 309,000 views and became one of the most watched clips on the “For You” page, where viral videos usually appear.

Squid Game parody
TikTok user Jazephua raked in 50 million views for his parodies of the South Korean Netflix series Squid Game. One of them showed him acting out a scene where he hands over a card marked with the show’s signature square, triangle, and circle symbols. Thanks to the show, the user grew popular by over a million followers.
TikTok user A.z.yx falling off a chair while taking part in a photo crop challenge also made him an accidental star. The photo crop challenge involves users trying to capture themselves in a moving photo frame.

More dad humor
The platform’s breakthrough local creators of the year include Daddyming, who gained close to nine million followers through his prank videos with his son. The funny dad’s poor chopsticks abilities also brought joy to Singaporeans on TikTok this year – a video of him struggling with the sticks was viewed around 30 million times.
TikTok user Arianteo also earned himself a large following with more than four million followers by posting editing tricks and photography tutorials.

Cuteness rules
Cats continue to rule the internet, especially those by Tutiandyuki. Clips of her three furry cats being forced to dance appear to be the most adorable ones on TikTok. Another video that brought smiles was one by Tigermiyaw, who posted a corny scene from the 1994 children’s movie The Little Rascals.

Most popular songs
Top hits used in videos on the platform this year were Beggin, a cover of Madcon’s popular song performed by Italian rock band Måneskin, and was used nearly 50,000 times, followed by The Magic Bomb (Questions I Get Asked) by Vietnamese Hoàng Read, which was used more than 26,000 times, and Into The Thick Of It! from the kids cartoon The Backyardigans, which was used more than 4,000 times.
