Singapore’s biggest Halloween event won’t happen this year, according to Resorts World Sentosa, as large-scale events hit a standstill due to COVID-19.
The Halloween Horror Nights scare festival is popular for its themed haunted houses set up across Universal Studios Singapore. The event is usually held across multiple weekends in the lead-up to Halloween and draws big crowds every year.
“Universal Studios Singapore has made the difficult decision to not hold the Halloween Horror Nights event this year. Like all of you, we are disappointed by this decision. But more than that, we are optimistic that it will return one day, scarier and more thrilling than ever,” a statement posted online yesterday read.

Thousands of people including performers are usually involved in the event. With the pandemic affecting travel and the economy, Resorts World Sentosa recently had to lay off staff. It did not specify the number of people it retrenched but said that various agencies were assisting in matching affected employees with other jobs.
Last year’s event was featured a death metal-themed procession and a Thai haunted house.
