Remember Singapore’s first vending machine cafe in Sengkang? Seems like we’re experiencing the rise of the machines, what with more of these popping up across the island.
The newest one comes just in time for Lunar New Year, and it’s brought to you by House of Seafood. Launched at one of the restaurant’s outlets in The Punggol Settlement earlier this week, the Ready-to-Eat Crab vending machine offers chilli, black pepper and salted egg yolk Sri Lankan crabs ($60/1kg). According to The Straits Times, they’re all delivered to you under five-and-a-half minutes and come piping hot in vacuum-sealed plastic boxes.
But if you’d rather whip up a feast at home, get frozen pre-cooked crabs from the machine to heat up or stir-fry in your own kitchen. Other than crustaceans, you can also purchase bak kut teh, chicken rice or nasi lemak at $5 each — they’re also available cooked or frozen. Payment can be made with cash, credit card or e-wallet services like Apple Pay.
And the good thing about machines is that they don’t have to go to sleep, so you can get food anytime you want.
For those who don’t live in Punggol, expect to see more Ready-to-Eat Crab vending machines around the country at Upper Serangoon Road, Sentosa and Joo Chiat Place, as well as industrial estates and tertiary institutions in the coming months.
