Singapore’s first all-vegan festival set to sprout next year

It’s hard to go on a fully plant-based diet in meat-loving Singapore, but for a large community of vegans here, the lifestyle seems only natural.

In a first for Singapore, the upcoming Vegan Vibes Festival is set to be the country’s inaugural all-day outdoor vegan festival, slated to take place early next year. Their recently set up Facebook page has announced that the festival will be hosting some of the best vegan food, beers, retail, live music and more as a mighty celebration of culinary and culture.

Speaking to Coconuts, festival co-founder and business development director Jennifer Banse mentions that the idea for Vegan Vibes Festival took root when researching online about veganism and coming across overseas vegan festivals on Youtube. Together with event co-founder and creative director Ken Tan, they could not pass on the manifestation of a Singaporean vegan-centric festival where they could bring like-minded people together – vegan or not – for a day of celebration.

Both Banse and Tan are proponents of the vegan lifestyle and vouch strongly for its beneficial effects in terms of health, energy and clarity of mind. “We feel that the time is right as people are getting more aware of what they put in their bodies and the impact they make with their lifestyle choices,” Banse declares. “And this is exactly what the festival wants to celebrate — the positivity of a plant-based lifestyle.”
