Almost a year since McDonald’s got everyone around the island queueing up for its nasi lemak burger — and a day after we told y’all about new eatery Nasi Coco’s nasi lemak and tempura dish — the experimental nasi lemak hype is still very much real.

Enter Old Chang Kee’s newfangled creation, the nasi lemak curry puff.

Available at all outlets for $2 each or $3.50 for two, the Nasi Lemak Chicken ‘O is the fried franchise’s way of jumping on the food trend bandwagon. Plus, it helps that amidst all the other snacks on display like chicken nuggets and fishballs, this green puff stands out immediately.

It’s crammed with spicy-sweet sambal chicken chunks with onions, a wedge of hard-boiled egg, and fried ikan bilis with peanuts. However, you won’t taste any coconut elements in the pastry shell, which gets its hue from pandan essence and, well, food coloring.

Obviously, nothing beats the classic dish, but this one offers enough of a taste to keep your cravings content.
