Castella cakes. We honestly don’t quite get the hype surrounding these jiggly things, but we’re guessing we’re probably in the minority, judging from the cakes’ popularity and the sudden influx of shops like Ah Mah Homemade Cake and LE Castella. Even Antoinette hopped on board the craze with its Earl Grey, Nutella and ondeh ondeh versions.
Anyway, if you’re a huge fan, you’ll be pleased to know the OG of Taiwanese castella cakes is coming to town. Permanently.
Original Cake, from Tamsui Old Street in Taipei, has been drawing ridiculous queues that go up to three hours at its first Taiwan outlet — so it must be doing something right.
The Singapore branch will find its home on the second floor of Westgate mall, hopefully by the end of August. Original Cake currently has four outlets in Taiwan and six in Malaysia, with standard flavors like original, cheese and chocolate, as well as more unique ones like banana milk and dried longan. Here’s hoping they all make it to our shores.

Original Cake will open end-Aug at #02-24 Westgate.
