If you’re a fan of fluffy cakes that, er, jiggle, here’s one place to satisfy your sweet tooth. Popular Malaysian bakery Ah Mah Homemade Cake serves up piping hot castella cakes that are made from scratch each day, and it’s slated to open up shop here tomorrow. Currently hot (pun intended) property on the other side of the causeway, the chain has established 14 outlets across Malaysia within a span of two months, selling over 100,000 cakes in the process.

The sponge-like cakes, originating from Taiwan, are simply made with milk, eggs and flour (no added preservatives or coloring), and they’re freshly baked in-house for 80 minutes each day. Apparently, they’re only stored for a maximum of 12 hours to ensure freshness, and discarded if not consumed by then. So… if you’d like to prevent food wastage, you really should probably head over to the outlet and bring a couple cakes home. Y’know, in the name of saving the environment and all.

The bakery’s first Singapore outlet, situated in Bukit Panjang Plaza, will introduce two flavors — original ($8) and cheese ($11). But if you ask us, we’d say go for the cheese-flavored ones for a blend of savory cheese and sweet fluffy sponge.

But beware: long lines have been a common sight at the brand’s Malaysian outlets — apparently, the waiting time for cakes surpassed 120 minutes when the bakery first opened its doors. We’re not sure if there’ll be snaking queues here, but if waiting in line isn’t your thing, just bide your time for a couple weeks/months until the hype inevitably dies down.

Ah Mah Homemade Cake launches tomorrow (Jul 14) at #01-18 Bukit Panjang Plaza, 1 Jelebu Rd. Daily 10am-10pm. Its second outlet will open on Jul 20 at #B2-K7 VivoCity, 1 Harbourfront Walk.
