Chef Keisuke Takeda has launched a new concept, and this time it’s all about the hamburg (pronounced hahn-bah-gu) steak. Today marks the first day of operations for Teppanyaki Hamburg Nihonbashi Keisuke Bettei, a 66-seater Tanjong Pagar joint that’s the 12th restaurant in Ramen Keisuke Group’s line-up of establishments — you’re probably familiar with names like Ramen Keisuke Tonkotsu King, Gyoza King and Ginza Tendon Itsuki.
The menu is pretty simple — it features just two mains: Keisuke prime beef hamburg set ($18.80; $10.80 for an additional patty) and the triple cheese prime beef hamburg set ($20.80; $12.80 for an additional triple cheese prime beef patty). The former comes with a 150g patty, while the latter comes with a 180g patty that’s stuffed with a blend of cheddar, mozzarella and parmesan (cue the Instagram money shot of gooey cheese oozing out from the sliced open patty). Each patty is freshly ground and formed to order; it’s seared on a teppanyaki grill and prepared sizzling on a hotplate.
The sets also include a bowl of Japanese rice, ebi furai (fried shrimp), aburaage (fried beancurd) and tofu with bonito flakes, and you can get your meat served with any of these four sauces: Keisuke original sweet and spicy, demi-glace, oroshi ponzu (radish with vinegar) or teriyaki.
Oh, and here’s the best part. Every set comes with free flow eggs (yep, as in you can eat all the eggs you want) cooked at the live egg station in whatever style you prefer — options include scrambled, sunny side-up and Japanese tamagoyaki (rolled omelette). If that’s not enough, you can also eat your fill of unlimited Japanese side dishes like cha soba salad, pasta salad with tuna and eggplant, simmered pumpkin, and pickled cabbage from an ever-changing menu of 20 items.
The restaurant doesn’t take reservations, so head over early if you’d like to avoid any (potential) queues.
Teppanyaki Hamburg Nihonbashi Keisuke Bettei is at 72 Peck Seah St, 6908-4348. Daily 11.30am-2.30pm, 5.30pm-10pm.
