Boon Tat Street joint FYR used to be regular hunting ground for carnivore cuisine, but a recent revamp has seen the restaurant turning into something more communal, with a major focus on sharing plates. Sharing is caring, y’all.
Nonetheless, the bedrock of their menu pretty much remains to be meat of all forms (land-based or nautical) via its trademark medium of fire — whether it be grilled, barbecued, roasted, seared or smoked. And FYR really wants its patrons to enjoy the delicacies with friends and family; even their small plates can be upsized. Three pieces of their freshwater prawns ($22) with prawn jus, saffron rouille and lemon dust can be upgraded to five pieces ($36). The same goes for their delicately moist bone marrow that comes with tomato-shallot salsa, garlic chips and white wine jelly ($22 for standard portions; $36 for grande portions).
Unless you’re a competitive eater who can stomach it all, FYR’s mains also arrive in huge platters fit for sharing. Those who want more seafood can dig in to the eatery’s take on paella with chorizo rice, scallop and prawns ($26). Or, go carb-free with the ibérico pork tomahawk ($46) that comes with roasted rum infused pineapple close, chilli and pistachio crust.
FYR may have changed, but they never forgot its roots. Sharing plates meant for up to four people are still available, with their classic Caveman Supper ($15) — a platter of pork knuckle, bone-in short ribs, free-range yellow chicken, lamb ribs, bone marrow, pork belly, tripe and roasted vegetables — ready to go whenever you are.
FYR is at 19 Boon Tat Street, 6221 3703. Open Monday to Thursday 11:30am-11pm; Friday 11:30am-12am; Saturday 5:30pm-11pm; closed Sunday
