We were pretty gutted when local chef Bjorn Shen’s fried chicken joint Bird Bird closed for good at the end of last year. Many a happy memory was spent there, chewing on hunks of juicy fried bird washed down with plates of mac ‘n’ cheese and sticky curly fries.
Ah well. When one door closes, another one opens, right?
Fans of Shen’s cooking won’t have to wait long, ’cause the man — who’s also behind fantastic Middle Eastern restaurant Artichoke — has just joined forces with another purveyor of fried chicken goodness, 4Fingers. Partnering up to launch a series of five new recipes for the fast-food chain, Shen will whip up new menu offerings influenced by Southeast Asian cuisine and Singaporeans’ idea of comfort food in his usual unconventional, experimental way.
First to make it on the menu starting tomorrow is this addictive thing called Skinnies ($4), otherwise known as fried chicken skin. Marinated overnight in a blend of spices, the crispy snack will come in two flavors: 4Fingers’ original soy and hot sauce. If you need something to dunk it in, get the sweet and tangy dip mixed with sour cream ($2) for maximum satisfaction.
As for the other four menu items, keep tabs on 4Fingers for more details to come.
