Fried chicken joint Bird Bird to shutter for good this month

After two years of serving up fried chicken — first Thai-style at Ann Siang Hill and then Southern influenced at Frankel Avenue — Bird Bird has announced its retirement from the food scene in Singapore this month. Its official last day of operations will be Nov 26, but if you’re in the ‘hood before then, be sure to pop by for some finger lickin’ good plates of fried chicken, curly fries, mac ‘n’ cheese, cornbread waffles, and more.

Chef-owner Bjorn Shen, who also helms Middle Eastern joint Artichoke, did a shout out on Instagram to salute his team for helping Bird Bird clinch a couple awards during its short stint here.

“We all know the statistics when it comes to restaurants and cafes in Singapore; and how 7/10 don’t make it past the first couple of years,” Shen explained. “We played. We lost. But I’m glad we tried nonetheless.”

Dear friends, It’s with a heavy heart that I announce the scheduled closure of @birdbirdsg later this month. We’ve given it our best over the last 2 years, and to see so many of you ‘satisfried’ has meant the world to us. But we all know the statistics when it comes to restaurants and cafes in Singapore; and how 7/10 don’t make it past the first couple of years. We played. We lost. But I’m glad we tried nonetheless. My deepest appreciation goes out to my teammates who have worked tirelessly to help me execute my ideas. I really wish things would have turned out better for all of us. We had some serious ‘ups’, like being on Burpple’s Hot 100 List in 2016, getting crowned champ at Savour & DBS’s Live Your Dream competition 2017 and being on the nominee list for Best Cafe on Chope’s Diner’s Choice Awards 2017 (going on right now, but we gonna respectfully pull out). Disbanding this team is the hardest part for me, but remember what I keep telling you – business failure never rests on the shoulders of employees; it is solely the responsibility of the owner. Don’t ever blame yourselves for this. Massive love to everyone else who made Bird Bird possible, which is all of you good folks. That said, we’re determined to go out on a high. Our last service is on the 26th of November. In between now and then, we’d love to have you drop by for a final farewell. Crush some chicken, chug a beer, smash a soft serve, and take a few pics with the team for memories sake. We’re also planning for a 3-day “one last time” menu to wrap things up from the 24-26th. Our team is working out the nitty gritty, and we’ll post more details soon. It’ll likely involve mountains of fried chicken, rivers of gravy, overflowing soft serve cups, entire bottles of cocktails, and @antyeoh and myself serving you in chicken suits. Come get satisfried, one last time.

To bid its customers a final farewell, Bird Bird will be throwing a closing party ($39 for adults, $20 for children) on the weekend of Nov 24 to 26 for unlimited fried chicken, curly fries, and softie cups.
