Whispers among F&B industry insiders in Singapore are circulating one very exciting possibility: Famous New York City burger chain Shake Shack could be setting up shop on our island at Jewel Changi Airport soon. Maybe. Hopefully.
According to 8 Days, who caught wind of the rumor from their industry contact, the popular burger joint has reportedly offered licensing rights to Korean F&B company SPC Group, the ones behind Paris Baguette, to debut Shake Shack on our shores. And it kind of makes sense, since the brand joined forces with the group to launch its outlets in South Korea, where the potato flour burger buns are baked by none other than Paris Baguette.
For those trying to figure out what’s the hype with Shake Shack, the franchise enjoys a cult following for its Shack Burger — loved for its juicy, antibiotic-free Angus flat beef patty topped with signature sauce — and its crinkle fries.
8 Days also mentioned that the people behind Jewel Changi Airport didn’t exactly reject the rumors — their simple response was, “we’ll try to get back to you soonest with a reply”. However, the massive airport complex is only targeted to debut in early 2019, so you can forget about instant gratification.
Since everything’s still up in the air, hold off on the enthusiasm just yet — and if really must have your burger, your best (and nearest) bet is Hong Kong.
