Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants: Singapore’s Born debuts with 8 others who climbed the ranks

The prestigious annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list is out and Singapore continues to impress this year. 

This year’s list has restaurants from 19 cities and seven new entries. The coveted ceremony was announced last night live in Singapore’s Resorts World Sentosa.

Singapore and Bangkok both have the highest number of entries with nine restaurants each. 

The top spot was awarded to Bangkok’s modern Thai restaurant Le Du, which has been on the list since 2017, followed by Tokyo’s Sézanne and Bangkok’s Nusara.

Singapore leads with Odette at No. 6 which is also on the rankings since 2017 and its pastry chef Louisa Lim won the Best Pastry Chef Award as well. 

Also on the list is Labyrinth at No. 11 which climbed up 29 spots from last year, followed by Meta (No. 17 up from 20th last year), Zén (No. 21 up from 37th last year), Burnt Ends (No. 24 up from 41st last year), Euphoria (No. 25), Cloudstreet (No. 26 up from 44th last year) and Les Amis (No. 27 down from 23rd last year).

Sole new local entry on the list is Born at No. 36. The contemporary fine dining restaurant on Neil Road is helmed by local ​​chef Zor Tan who blends French fine dining with Chinese gastronomy.

In Bangkok, there is Gaggan Anand (No. 5), Sorn (No. 9), Sühring (No. 22) and Raan Jay Fai (No. 38). Newbies include Potong (No. 35), Baan Tepa (No. 46) and Ms. Maria & Mr. Singh (No. 33).

Hong Kong has five familiar faces: The Chairman (No. 13), Neighbourhood (No. 29), Wing (No. 37), Mono (No. 41) and Caprice (No. 49).

Manila’s Toyo Eatery swooped in at No. 42 and takes the Flor de Caña Sustainable Restaurant Award. Metiz also entered the list at No. 48 for the Philippines.

The list is ranked by votes from the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy which is made up of over 300 food writers, critics, chefs, restaurateurs and regional culinary experts.
