Yummy critter? Newscaster amused when husband discovers dead cockroach in his milk tea

What would you do if you found a cockroach in your milk tea? Most people would probably throw a hissy fit, but newscaster Bernadette Sembrano was amused when her husband found a critter floating in his drink.

Sembrano posted a photo of the invading roach on her Instagram account on Monday. She wrote, “Ummm excuse me … to milk tea lovers — what do you think that black thing is ? Ewwwww. My husband sipped it!!!”

She added that the milk tea was bought in Greenbelt, a posh mall in Makati City. In an update to the post, she divulged the response that she received from the company which owns the boba tea store.

“YI FANG milk tea company called and informed me that they will close the Greenbelt branch for sanitary inspection,” she wrote. “They will also shoulder [the] medical expenses of my husband if needed. (So far we are OK.) Thank you for taking action.”

In an interview yesterday with radio station DZMM, Sembrano animatedly recalled what transpired on Sunday. She said her husband, Emilio Aguinaldo IV, was drinking the milk tea but stopped when he ate something that didn’t feel like tapioca.

“He slurped something,” she said, while giggling uncontrollably. “He said, ‘This isn’t round. It’s square.'”

Aguinaldo, however, didn’t immediately spit out the bug, saying it didn’t taste weird.

“He turned it round and round in his tongue,” Sembrano continued, now laughing uncontrollably. “He said, ‘This is probably a cockroach.’ When he took it out, it was really a cockroach!”

Sembrano said that the company promptly responded to her complaint about the unwanted extra addition to her husband’s milk tea. They told her that they would close the store for inspection and asked about her husband’s health. The broadcaster told them that her husband was fine.

She used her experience to remind everyone to be “vigilant” and “find out the reputation of the places where we eat.”

Sembrano went on to tell her interviewer that she was not upset by the incident.

“They will become more careful because of their experience,” she said about the milk tea company. “I would like to believe that it was an isolated case. I hope they didn’t fire their staff.”
