They say Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is the most ambitious crossover in history, but Filipinos have seen something much better.
Ok, maybe not better, but this is hella funny.
Motorcycle ride-sharing app Angkas released a teaser on Facebook today of its collaboration with Dante Gulapa aka Big Papa, a former macho dancer who became an online sensation and is now the trendiest meme in the Philippines.
The video shows Gulapa wearing only a motorcycle helmet and some special briefs repping the brand. He can be seen doing his signature “Eagle Dance,” where he gyrates like an eagle, to the theme song “Angkas Tara Na (Angkas Let’s Go).”
Those who watch will also get close-up shots of Gulapa’s pecs and some sensitive areas which may not be suitable for young viewers (be warned).
By the end of the video, Gulapa gets on a bicycle instead of the Angkas motorcycle which has been stationed near him in all the shots in the video.
The video is just the latest Angkas promo that taps online trends. For example, in August last year, they poked fun at the infamous and much-criticized logo for the 2019 Southeast Asian (SEA) Games that was approved by the Philippine government. The logo is comprised of 11 multi-colored circles arranged in the shape of the Philippines, which looked like bubbles, same as Angkas’ graphics below.
It said in its post in Filipino: “Will this work? #Philippines2019 #30THSEAGAMES”

It also rode on the hype of the then-newly released Netflix film To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before. It said in the post: “To All The Passengers I Didn’t Accommodate Before.”

Gulapa is the hottest meme in the country right now. Animation studio Rocketsheep even created an animated video tribute for Gulapa, which compiles animated clips created by 23 Gulapanatics, fans of Big Papa. The video compilation is set to the tune of R. Kelly’s “I Believe I Can Fly” and has over 470,000 views and 11,000 likes.
Gulapa was also featured on GMA Network’s show Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (One at Heart, Jessica Soho).
Angkas’ ad received over 147,900 views, 12,000 likes, and 8,000 shares in 2 hours. Netizens had a good laugh about it, too.
Kevin O Flora said: “That zoom in,” referring to the close-up on Gulapa’s “sensitive” body parts.
Yeolb-Eun Galsaeg Beoblyul said: “Them: [The] Avengers [E]nd game is the most ambitious crossover in history
Papa Dante and Angkas: Hold my beer”
Alyzza Louise Saldaña said: “Angkas’ marketing team deserves a raise! [S]olid!!!”
Jan Kristhian Bernabe said: “LEGENDS supporting LEGENDS.”
Skip Tan said in Filipino: “We should have a showdown.”
Zuey Magallanes said: “Papa Dante needs his own mall tour.”
