A vlogger has inspired countless artistic Filipinos with her accurate face painting of a Pampanga town, where she ended up getting stuck early this year because of the pandemic.
Goldie Geanne Yabes, a 21-year-old architecture student and painter, was in the village of Dampe in Floridablanca in July when she thought of painting the surrounding rice fields on her face.
“We were locked down in Pampanga. So I thought of ways that I could vlog because I left some of my tools in Baguio City. And then I thought of creating a makeup illusion because the scenery in Dampe is really beautiful. So this was my way of vlogging and showing the beauty of the place,” Yabes told Coconuts Manila in English and Filipino.

“I painted [the scene] on my face so that I would end up blending on the background,” she said.
Yabes shared her work online and it quickly went viral. On one Facebook page, it was even shared almost 3,600 times.
The working student, who also refurbishes sneakers, started face painting just four months ago.

“No one taught me how to paint. I’ve always liked drawing since I was a child. So I got better from joining competitions,” she said, adding that she plans to create more face paintings, such as Baguio City’s tourist spots.
Yabes, who has been featured on several websites and television shows, said she’s grateful for all the attention she has been getting.
“This is so overwhelming and unexpected. I didn’t expect that people would respond to my work this way,” she said.
