This case will “burn” for a long time.
“Valenzuela City officials led by Mayor Rex Gatchalian and officials of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) were charged with administrative and criminal charges before the Office of the Ombudsman in connection with the May 13 Kentex factory fire which left 72 people dead,” reports Arlene Rivera on Journal Online.
Based on the recommendation of the Department of Justice (DoJ) last July, the Inter-Agency Anti-Arson Task Force (IATF) headed by Senior Supt. Samuel Tadeo formally charged Gatchalian and other officials.
The repport noted: “Aside from Gatchalian, Valenzuela City business permit and licensing office acting head Atty. Renchi May Padayao and licensing officer Eduardo Carreon were also charged for violations of the Revised Fire Code of 2008.”
The report added that “Valenzuela fire marshal Supt. Mel Jose Lagan, fire safety enforcement section head Senior Insp. Edgrover Oculam and fire safety inspector SFO2 Rolando Avendan, were also charged.”
