“Mixed martial arts (MMA) outfit Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) will formally make its debut in Manila this year by staging a Fight Night event at the Mall of Asia Arena on May 16,” reports ABS-CBNnews.com.
UFC Asia general manager Ken Berger was quoted as saying, “We are thrilled to be kicking off our Asia series in Manila this year. The UFC has a loyal and passionate fan base in the Philippines and we’re looking forward to bringing the very best of MMA to Manila for the first time.”
While the UFC Fight Night date is set on May 16, the fight card has yet to be announced. The UFC said, “Tickets for the event will go on sale in March via SM Tickets.”
The report noted: “The UFC is rapidly becoming more popular in Asia, and the promotion has previously held events in Macau, Singapore, and Tokyo. Several UFC fighters have also visited the Philippines in the past years, including Carlos Condit, whose open workout in November last year was attended by thousands of fans.”
