Tied up 14-year-old girl found dead inside Caloocan home

Authorities continue to search for the suspect behind the gruesome killing of a 14-year-old girl, who was found dead inside her own home in Pangarap Village, Caloocan last night.

Caloocan City police identified the victim as Garlene Teria, who was found dead with several stab wounds in the neck and with her hands and feet bound with a nylon cord. Her mother Mary Jean Teria found the victim lying face down on her bloodied bed when the former came home after work at around 7pm.

Garlene was found with her shirt on but without her underwear, leading police to suspect that she was raped.

Police have identified a suspect named Diomedes Liamez, 37, the family’s neighbor, after the victim’s mother alleged that she saw him leaving their house with a blood-stained shirt, quickly walking away from the scene.

The suspect’s mother told news show Unang Hirit  that she’s had a feud with Liamez, the caretaker of the area where she built their house.

“He wanted me out of our house because we were asked to live in this house [by the owner], but I was the first to settle here,” Mary Jean said in Filipino. She also alleged that the suspect had been spying on them prior to the grisly incident.

“He would peek from the windows. He would eavesdrop on what we [in the family] would talk about. He thought we were talking about him,” she added.

Mary Jean said she previously had to settle a spat with Liamez at the village hall after the suspect accused her of being infected with COVID-19.

Garlene had dreams of them leaving their current residence, her mother said.

“She would say ‘Ma, we don’t have our own house, we have to have to live everywhere just so you don’t need to pay the rent. But wait for me to finish school so I can get us our own place,'” Mary Jean recalled.

Caloocan police have launched a manhunt for Liamez, who remains at large.
