Three stabbed by neighbor for not inviting him to family reunion

A family reunion ended in murder yesterday when a neighbor — allegedly angry at not receiving an invite — showed up with a knife as his plus one.

Reynaldo Loyola and his relatives Michael and Frederick Magboo were enjoying the normal mix of food, booze and karaoke in a town in Rizal province, when, according to Loyola’s wife Marivic, neighbor Randy Mongaya took offense at not being asked to join in the fun.

That’s when he allegedly invited himself, then pulled a knife when the three asked him to leave.

“He was just so mad that they didn’t want him to join,” Marivic told GMA news in an interview in Tagalog. “Of course, it’s a family reunion and he’s not part of [the family].

A neighbor captured the incident with their smartphone.

Loyola grabbed a pipe in an attempt to fight back, causing Mongaya to momentarily retreat. But when Mongaya’s brother, who was nearby, snatched the pipe away from Loyola, Mongaya charged and stabbed him to death.

The Magboos were stabbed as well, but survived the incident and are now recovering at the hospital.

While Marivic said the incident happened because Mongaya wasn’t invited to the party, barangay (village) officials said the two have a long-standing beef with each other, although they offered no further details.

Mongaya and his brother were able to escape arrest, but are now being hunted by police.
