The first of 13 trainsets for the ongoing PNR Clark project has arrived, the Department of Transportation said on Facebook.
The eight-car trainset, which is at the Port of Manila and set to undergo customs clearances, will be used for PNR Clark Phase 1, the transportation agency said.
The first phase of PNR Clark stretches from Tutuban in Manila to Malolos, Bulacan over a 38-kilometer railway.
The DOTr said that the trainset had already undergone a factory acceptance test in Japan before being shipped to the country.
Meanwhile, a second trainset is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2022.
The arrival of the trainset comes months after transportation secretary Art Tugade said that Phase 1 of PNR Clark project was on track.
Once completed, PNR Clark Phase 1 is expected to cut travel time between Malolos and Tutuban to 35 minutes, from 1 hour and 30 minutes.
The PNR Clark, divided into two phases, makes up a section of the massive North-South Commuter Railway project, which seeks to connect Central Luzon via New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac to Laguna through the PNR Calamba line.
