It’s no secret that Metro Manila could benefit from more efficient transport alternatives and decongestion solutions — the bustling metro’s population swells from almost 13 million to around 15 to 16 million during the daytime, thanks to the influx of employees, students, and businessmen coming from nearby cities.
Hopefully this will soon improve with the North-South Commuter Railway (NSCR) project underway, a massive railway system which will run from the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac to Calamba, Laguna through two lines: PNR Calamba, which stretches from Tondo, Manila to Laguna; and PNR Clark, of which Phase 1 will run between Tutuban and Malolos.
With phase 1 of PNR Clark in the works, Department of Transportation and Communication Secretary Art Tugade showcased the renders of the upcoming second phase on his Facebook page.
The PNR Clark phase 2 is said to cut travel time from Malolos, Bulacan to Clark, Pampanga in just 30 to 35 minutes.
Tugade wrote, “The PNR Clark Phase 2, which now has a 32% overall progress rate, will reduce travel time from Malolos, Bulacan to Clark, Pampanga, and vice versa, from 2 hours to just 30-35 minutes!”
According to Tugade, the North-South Commuter Railway will also include the country’s Airport Railway Express Service and claims will run from Makati City to the Clark International Airport in under 1 hour.
Secretary Tugade said that PNR Clark will have six stations — Calumpit, Apalit, San Fernando, Angeles, Clark, and Clark International Airport.
