Oh, is that a slithering snake hiding behind chicken breasts?

Five cobras trapped inside plastic water bottles were seized by Manila’s Market Administration Office (MAO) at the New Arranque Market yesterday.

The cobras were discovered when a market inspector heard them hissing from their DIY cages.

“When the market master was inspecting and overseeing the cleaning of vacant stores, he heard the hiss of the snakes so he searched where it was coming from,” MAO Director Zenaida Mapoy said in a statement.

“That’s when he saw the five mineral water bottles containing the cobras,” Mapoy added.

She said that having the reptiles in the market posed a danger to the public (duh), and that she will discuss the incident with the owner of the stall where the animals were found.

No one has been arrested in connection to the case. Meanwhile, the cobras were brought to Manila’s Public Recreations Bureau.
