A 15-year-old boy accused of beating his 14-year-old neighbor to death with a piece of wood was arrested today by the Philippine National Police (PNP).
The grisly event which occurred on Aug. 24 was recorded on CCTV and has been broadcast by a couple of news outlets in the country. The video also shows seven loiterers who witnessed the attack.
According to ABS-CBN News, instead of stopping the suspect, the men allegedly encouraged the suspect to continue beating victim identified as Rogelio Apron III.
The PNP is also preparing charges to be filed against the seven.
According to a report from radio station DWIZ, the suspect was arrested in his grandmother’s house in Bacoor, Cavite. The boy threatened authorities that he would commit suicide if he ends up in jail.
GMA News’ Balitambayan reported that the boy tried to run away when authorities arrived to arrest him. The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) will have custody of the suspect due to his young age.
The seven men who witnessed the crime remain at large.
