Even as Alert Level 3 remains up over Taal Volcano early this morning, observers posted photos of an impressive plume of volcanic emissions jetting up from the volcano’s crater.

This morning’s bulletin from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (DOST-PHIVOLCS) included a note about the 2.5-km high plume, which is from an upwelling of heated volcanic gas from the active volcano.

At Alert Level 3, all people are still barred from visiting Taal Volcano Island and the high-risk barangays of Agoncillo and Laurel. Fishermen are also warned away from Taal Lake, and all aircraft have been directed away from the volcano.
