K-pop fans are some of the most passionate in the world.
Take this Filipino high school student for example, who brought a life-size cutout of a K-pop idol to prom, as seen in a now-viral Facebook post from Monday.
Beatriz Pineda of the PAREF Rosehill school in Antipolo City did away with the average prom date and instead brought a standee of EXO boy band member Do Kyung-soo (aka D.O.).
She shared a photo with her “date” and wrote: “[P]rom with this guy. KYUNGSOO PLEASE NOTICE ME.”
The photos show Pineda in a purple gown while the singer is dressed in a killer suit. He can even be seen holding up a cute blue stuffed toy.
Pineda also posed with him for lovey-dovey and wacky photos.
The night ended with a bang too, as they were declared Prom King and Queen.
Pineda told Coconuts Manila through a Facebook message that the prom happened on Saturday at the Plaza Ibarra venue in Timog, Quezon City. She said she and her friends came up with the idea so she wouldn’t have to worry about keeping her date entertained.
She said: “My friends and I thought of bringing brothers to school, but I don’t have a brother. So I thought of bringing a standee to prom! With the standee, I wouldn’t have to worry about keeping him entertained and I wouldn’t be alone either!”
She said she chose D.O. because she’s a major EXO fan (obviously).
“He’s my ultimate crush so I thought that we’d look really cute and cool,” she said, adding that she hopes her crush and the rest of the EXO group sees her viral post.
Her standee of the K-pop idol was even awarded for being the “life of the party.”
The Facebook post had over 1,000 likes, 300 comments, and 700 shares as of this article’s posting.
Netizens thought it was funny and were amused.
Lhory Mae Alcedera Artiaga said: “I LOVE YOU NA FOR BRINGING KYUNGSOO WITH YOU TO PROM”
Elise Suarez added: “OMG COUPLE GOALS”
Michal Quero said Pineda was brave for bringing the standee. “I salute and admire her.”
Clai Clai said: “Congrats to you both, Prom King and Queen.”
Eros Gelo asked where Pineda bought the standee.
One said she wants to do the same thing.
Ayeesha Urdas tagged a friend and said: “I’M GOING TO DO THIS [at my prom].”
