Security guard arrested for allegedly killing and raping college student

A security guard was arrested by police on Tuesday for allegedly raping and killing a De La Salle Lipa student in Lipa City, Batangas.

The suspect was identified as Jorge Benedicto, while the victim was identified as 21-year-old Fidex Therese Maranan, Radyo Inquirer reported. The victim was buried yesterday.

Benedicto was the security guard in Maranan’s subdivision in the Miracle Heights Subdivision of Barangay (Barangay) Antipolo Del Norte in Lipa City, Rappler reported. He was arrested in the town of Victoria in Oriental Mindoro province by a team of policemen at around 5pm on Tuesday.

Maranan was a fourth-year college student, The Philippine Daily Inquirer reported. Batangas provincial director Police Colonel Edwin Quilates told Rappler that a relative of the victim went to her house and found her body covered with a blanket on the bedroom floor around 3:30pm on May 17, Friday.

Police said Maranan had a head injury and a stab wound in her neck. The autopsy results revealed that she was also sexually assaulted.

The suspect’s fellow employees said that a day after the incident, Benedicto did not show up for work, GMA News’ Balitambayan reported. The suspect also refused to comment on the incident.

Benedicto is detained at the Lipa City Police Station. He is facing rape and homicide charges
