The chief of the Philippine National Police in San Jose, Northern Samar died on Monday after a blade attached to a fighting rooster lacerated his femoral artery.
Lieutenant Christian Bolok, 38, raided an illegal cockfight with his team, and it was there where he picked up one of the gaffed roosters that was supposed to be used as evidence. The blade sliced through his left thigh, and blood oozed from his wound. He had to be rushed to the hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead by doctors.

Provincial Police Chief Colonel Arnel Apud told AFP that the freak accident was “an unfortunate piece of bad luck.”
“I could not believe it when it was first reported to me. This is the first time in my 25 years as a policeman that I lost a man due to a fighting cock’s spur,” Apud added.
Cockfighting is a popular sport in the Philippines, but it has been banned to prevent mass gatherings amidst the coronavirus pandemic. Several people have been arrested for organizing such fights, and in one case, a pissed city mayor ordered all roosters to be cooked into adobo to teach violators a lesson.
