The partial remains of a 10-year-old boy killed by a crocodile were found on Monday night floating in a river in Balabac, Palawan.
Members of the police and the Philippine Coast Guard found the head and right thigh of the boy in a river in the village of Salang. The boy was attacked by a crocodile on Sunday at about 6am when he went out with older sister and brother to buy coffee and sugar.
According to the children, their younger brother was about to go up the stairs of their floating house when was bitten by the reptile on his abdomen. He was then dragged into the water by the animal and disappeared under the surface, reported ABS-CBN News.
The chief of the Balabac Municipal Police Station, Nebuchadnezzar Matrio, told Palawan News that the family prefers to live on their floating house by the river because they have to manage their seaweed plantation.
Jovic Fabello, spokesperson of the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development, told news program Saksi that Balabac is known as an area where crocodiles often attack humans. In December, a crocodile suspected of having killed a fisherman was caught in Balabac. Two months before that, a teenager was almost killed by a crocodile in the same town but managed to escape after hitting the reptile repeatedly with a boat paddle.
