Palawan is a must-visit destination but danger lurks beyond its beautiful facade.

A male teenager in Balabac, Palawan fought off a croc with a paddle after he saw the animal bite his buddy. The incident happened on Saturday when the two teenagers identified as Parsi Hulia Diaz and Ronel Sara went for a swim in a river.

According to GMA News Balitanghali, the two teens were about to leave the water when Diaz was suddenly bitten by a crocodile.

Manila Bulletin reported that Diaz was about to board a boat to leave the area when the animal caught one of his legs in between his jaws and started dragging him away. But Sara grabbed one of the boat’s paddles and hit the crocodile repeatedly. This was enough to stop the croc from taking Diaz and it scurried away.

Diaz suffered bite wounds on his foot, knee, and buttocks, reported RMN. He was brought to a nearby health center where his wounds were treated.

According to the police, no less than six crocodile attacks have occurred in the town in the past six years.

It’s likely that it may happen again soon.

Policeman Mark Anthony Colili told Palawan News: “When we went to the area, the crocodile was still there.”
