Marlon Perorama, aka Loonie, a rapper best known for the songs TaoLang and Ganid, was arrested along with four others in the basement of a Makati hotel last night for allegedly selling high-grade marijuana.
Manila Bulletin identified his companions as David Rizon, Ivan Agustin, Albert Alvarez, and Idyll Liza Peroramas, the rapper’s sister. The group was arrested just after 8pm after they allegedly handed over 15 sachets of pot to undercover cops who pretended to be customers, reported ABS-CBN News.
The authorities seized from the suspects PHP100,000 (US$1,912) — the fake money that the police paid them with — and two cellphones.
Despite being caught with marijuana, Loonie denied that he was a dealer.
“All these allegations are not true. Those [marijuana sachets] are not ours,” he told the media right after he was arrested.
He also said that he was at the hotel to visit a child sick of cancer. No, really.
“I just came from a radio interview. I went straight [to this hotel] and then this suddenly happened.”
Makati police chief Colonel Rogelio Simon said his team had been monitoring the rapper for two months. “We have a very reliable informant saying that he sells high-grade marijuana. My men went to his gigs and befriended him to get his trust. Then they transacted with him,” Simon said.
Loonie and his companions will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
The rapper has collaborated with notable Filipino musicians such as the band Greyhoundz and singer Quest. His arrest comes a month after another rapper, Xander Bay, was arrested in Pampanga for allegedly selling marijuana.
