On Thu, Mar 10, McDonald’s Philippines issued an advisory on their official Twitter page concerning a politician who seems to have attempted to take credit for the fastfood chain’s National Breakfast Day promo, wherein they would give free McMuffins.
The advisory read: “This is to inform the public that National Breakfast Day is a promotion solely organized by McDonald’s Philippines and is not sponsored by any other organization or individual.”
The politician’s image used for the “fake promo” (for lack of a better phrase) belongs to a candidate for councilor in Marikina City’s 1st District — a man named Ferdinand “Ferdie” Marco.
Apparently, a promotional poster incorporating Marco’s face into McDonald’s Philippines National Breakfast Day announcement was posted on Marco’s Facebook page.
Translation: “Because I love you, I am giving you free McMuffins from McDonald’s on March 14, 2016 from 6am to 7am. I’ll make sure you get free McMuffins from all McDonald’s outlets all over the Philippines. Just say my name. That’s how much I love you! Save the date! Let’s see each other for your free breakfast. Remember it’s just from 6am to 7am. Be early FB friends!”
Other concerned citizens later noted that Marco’s Facebook page (which he had been using for his campaign) seems to have been deactivated.
Later on, though, a mock Facebook page for Marco turned up. The mock Facebook page featured a photo of Marco with McDonald’s cap Photoshop-ed on his head.
