As the campaign season for the upcoming May elections kicked off, Filipinos clad in pink took to the streets in support of Vice President Leni Robredo’s candidacy — particularly on kalesas or horse-drawn carriages.
Social media was flooded with images of vibrant carriages decked out in pink across the country as Robredo’s supporters — dubbed as Kakampinks — showcased the people’s movement, coinciding with the proclamation rally of Robredo and her running mate, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan in Naga City.

“Our #PeoplesCampaign for #LeniKiko2022 is overflowing with passion and creativity,” the Robredo People’s Council Facebook page wrote. “Look at the kalesas used at the Pampanga caravan: pink na pink, which our supporters and volunteers dressed in for our kickoff!”
Kalesas also dotted the cobblestone streets of Vigan, Ilocos Sur — the region of her political opponent, former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, dispelling notions of a “Solid North.”

“Horse carriages decked in pink brightened up (the) City of Vigan Ilocos Sur on Tuesday, as Ilocano supporters of presidential aspirant, Vice President Leni Robredo and running mate Senator Kiko Pangilinan joined the kickoff proclamation rally via calesa caravan,” the page MAMA Leni – Ilocos wrote.
Robredo and Pangilinan were in the vice president’s hometown of Naga City, where her late husband Jesse also served as mayor. Aside from supporters who have come to see the vice president in the flesh, the proclamation rally was filled with celebrities such as Agot Isidro, Cherry Pie Picache, Bituin Escalante, Rivermaya, and Gab Valenciano, among others.
