Got to explore and see the world? Luckily, the travel gods have answered your prayers.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is going to open 100,000 slots in the Philippine passport appointment system today, Foreign Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said in a press conference.

Cayetano said that 50,000 slots will be made available on the DFA website today at 12pm while another 50,000 slots will open at 9pm.

Cayetano adds that the company aims to open 10,000 slots from Monday to Saturday at the same time slots, 12pm and 9pm.

He mentions that due to the influx of passport applicants, the agency will be opening new slots each day for different time slots to make it convenient for applicants.

Rappler has reported that thousands of Filipinos have to wait for months to get passport appointments.

Last October, Cayetano announced that the Philippine passport will get a ten-year validity period for Filipinos 18 years or older. It was implemented in January.

The ten-year passport is said to cost PHP950 (US$17.83). DFA’s site states that Filipinos who are under 18 years of age will still be issued the five-year valid passports.
