The newly-elected party-list group Ang Probinsyano today said that they are investigating allegations that one of its members, Representative Alfred delos Santos, assaulted the waiter of a chain restaurant in Legazpi City, Albay.

According to a police blotter, delos Santos allegedly punched a waiter named Christian Kent Alejo at Biggs Diner in the Old Albay district on Monday, for no apparent reason. The blotter said that Alejo luckily managed to avoid delos Santos’ fist. The hapless waiter decided not to press charges against delos Santos, reported Rappler.

The incident has gone viral thanks to CCTV footage that supposedly shows what went down at the restaurant. In the video, a uniformed employee that’s supposedly Alejo can be seen speaking to a man in black, believed to be delos Santos. The two men spoke for a bit before the man in black punched the server.

Delos Santos, a neophyte politician, is the son of Grace delos Santos, a prominent businesswoman in Albay.

Ang Probinsyano’s investigation of the incident will be impartial, vowed the party-list group’s spokesman Joco Sabio. “Definitely we will not tolerate any kind of abuse in our party. We will not hesitate to suspend or even remove Congressman delos Santos if we establish that this was an unprovoked attack,” Sabio said in a statement according to CNN Philippines.

While Sabio said that delos Santos has the right to due process, his actions do not reflect their entire group.

“He is not the entire representation of the Ang Probinsyano Partylist. His actions and his decisions are his own and should not reflect on Ang Probinsyano as a party and as an organization,” Sabio said.

“We are not taking this sitting down and we are taking all the necessary steps to make sure that this will not happen again in the future,” he added.

Ang Probinsyano is one of the most successful party-list groups that ran in the mid-term elections in May, where it ended at fifth place, according to ABS-CBN News. Promising to improve the lives of those working and living in the countryside, it borrowed the name of a highly popular drama-action show that’s been broadcast on ABS-CBN since 2015. The show’s lead star, Coco Martin, even campaigned for the party-list group.
